Being a pediatric nurse means people automatically assume I am relaxed about travelling with a young child. They are wrong. I am, if anything, more anxious — because I know exactly what can go wrong.

What my nursing background does give me is a ruthlessly practical checklist. I know how to identify a well-equipped first aid kit, how to assess whether a local pharmacy can actually fill a child’s prescription, and which hospital emergency departments in major Asian cities have English-speaking pediatric staff on standby.

But the more important gift came from Arjun himself. Watching him experience Tokyo’s teamLab for the first time — running through a waterfall of digital cherry blossoms, completely speechless — reminded me that children approach the world with a kind of pure wonder that we adults have to actively practice.
